I heard these mountains think yesterday.
Their thoughts are as deep
and as ancient
as the wild veins of gold
that tangle shining among their toes.
they are so much slow
er than I
am
that I had some trouble
checking my headlong flight
long enough to
listen.
Many men
who lived before me
understood the thoughts
of these mountains.
Wait!
Did you hear laughing?
